A 469.75ct raw Lightning Ridge crystal nobby, straight out of the ground. Teal, cyan, blue, green and violet play of colour rolling deep through the body of the opal. Beneath all of it, a red glow that radiates through the crystal like light through stained glass. This is not surface brightness. The colour lives inside this piece.

It opens from multiple angles. Surface windows on different faces of the stone each reveal a different world. The flagstone pattern organises itself across the face in defined plates and vertical bars — and there is something almost architectural about what you find when you look closely. A rhythmic structure, like the curve of a smile caught in silica and light. The colour rolls and shifts as the light moves across it. It is the kind of detail that stops people mid-sentence.
