Shop Opals | Lightning Ridge | Opal Hub Australia

Discover genuine opal, sourced directly from Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, the only place on earth producing true black opal. At Opal Hub Australia, we source every stone we sell, including Corcoran, Grawin and the town opal fields, giving collectors, jewellers and investors direct access to a gemstone with a single point of origin and no true equivalent anywhere else in the world.

Colour in opal is produced through diffraction across microscopic silica spheres, larger spheres diffracting red, the rarest and most difficult colour to form without structural flaw, smaller spheres diffracting blue and violet at the opposite structural extreme. Against Lightning Ridge's distinctive body tones, black, dark, crystal and white, this diffraction produces colour unmatched by any other gemstone on earth. Pattern adds a further, genuine layer of rarity, a specific, limited set of named patterns, harlequin, flagstone, straw, rolling flash, broad flash, and rarest of all, pictorial, found in this combination nowhere else opal is mined.
